The Leyman Story

Founded in 1940, Leyman Manufacturing Corporation has been manufacturing all-hydraulic lift gates for over 45 years. During this time, Leyman products have evolved as industry standards.

Leyman product innovations include:

• all-hydraulic rail style
• heavy duty 12 volt D.C. motors for increased
motor lift
• emergency hand pump

• color coded wiring
• starter solenoids which record lift gate usage
for more efficient fleet management
• lifting capacities above 10,000 lbs.

Time Line

1940	- Incorporated in Cincinnati, Ohio
1960	- Begins as a material handling systems and hydraulic lift gate builder.
1965	- Introduces the first rail style design in the world, which has an all-hydraulic 6,000 lbs. capacity (no cables or pulleys). - Low maintenance and twice the durability as cable lift gates - Introduction of the all-hydraulic LEY-VADOR^® - Installed inside the vehicle - Does not add length to the vehicle - 6,000 lbs. capacity - Today capacities for LEY-VADOR^® range from 4,000 – 10,000 lbs.
1970s	- National distributorship program begins - Additional outside sales personnel - Design of first all hydraulic rail style with 4,000 lbs. capacity - 1970s/1980s – Company drops material handling systems as the hydraulic lift gate side of the business grows
1981	- Introduction of TLS (Hide-A-Way^® trailer side gate) - Introduction of STG (truck side gate) - Addition of 3,000 and 5,000 lbs. capacity rail style
1991	- Addition of LV Level-Vador^® (conventional style lift gate) - Addition of LVS Level-Vador^® (slider gate)
2000	- Addition of LHLP tuckunder style gate with large aluminum platform
2001	- Addition of LV Level-Vador^® with aluminum platform
2002	- Addition of TSG truck side gate to product line
2003	- Introduction of Maintenance Minder^2® Power Unit - Introduction of LFS 900 - Sprinter Van Lift Gate - Addition of TLS (Trailer Side Gate) capacities
2004	- Addition of FDC (rail gate) with Aluminum Platform - Tuckunder style lift gates on trailers can be installed on swing doors (LHLP) - Addition of deeper platform to LH (Hide-A-Way^®)
2005	- Addition of LHLP with 2500 and 3500 lbs. capacities
2006	- Beginning of new partnership with B.A.R. Cargolift, the premier German lift gate supplier - Wedge platform available on LH and LHS tuckunder style lift gates - Addition of Sprinter Van External Aluminum Lift Gate - LCS1320 Free Access
2007	- Introduction of 1650 Free Access Lift Gate with a level ride aluminum wedge platform - SLP Wedge style tuckunder steel platform. Lifting capacities 2,500 and 3,500
